HEATHER NORTH

· Coaching background/experience: Coach Heather North has been running since she could walk and has coached for BoldRunning for the past three years. Heather is also a Doctor of Physical Therapy and works with Mark Plaatjes at In Motion Physical Therapy. Her running background combined with her extensive knowledge of orthopaedic and manual/manipulative physical therapy make her able to help runners from several angles.

· Running background/experience: She has competed in ten marathons including Boston, eight half marathons, more road and trail races than can be counted, and a half ironman. During the past year Heather has set personal bests in every race she competes in including clocking personal bests in the 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon. She enjoys hill workouts and track sessions because they are the most challenging.

· Coaching Philosphies/ideas: Heather likes to push her runners when they need a push, but also know when to hold back. She is increadibly skilled at getting hidden talent out of runners, using motivational techniques, and letting runners see their true potential. Incorporating exercise physiology as a basis for understanding training is important to her and she adds those explanations workouts early on in the workouts. However, Heather thinks that finding the fun in every workout is of utmost importance and making sure that it is the focus of everyone's training.

· Sporting achievments: Some recent accomplishments are placing 6th in the 2007 Pikes Peak Marathon, placing 1st in age group at the 2007 Vail Hill Climb, placing 3rd in her age group at the Big Sur Half Marathon in California and ninth overall at the Canyonlands Marathon in Moab. Heather also set a swimming recond while in college and won a renowned 8k hill race while studing abroad in Italy.
