DUZER DUZ BOLDERBOULDER
By Ryan Van Duzer
Memorial weekend is by the best three days of the year in Boulder! The tulips are out in full force on Pearl Street, the Farmer’s Market is brimming with all sorts of fruits and veggies, the Creek Fest is packed with happy families, and of course it’s capped off on Monday with my absolute favorite event in the history of the world, the BOLDERBoulder.
I’m a proud Boulder boy and I love my beloved town. Here are some ideas to help you have the best weekend of your life.
Get Out
Pack your sunscreen drink lots of water (we’re at altitude people) and get ready for the ride of your life! Boulder is a giant playground and you’d be crazy not to take advantage of our great outdoors. Loosen us those muscles with a hike or jog up Sanitas. The trailhead is just a step away from downtown and the view from the top is awe-inspiring.
Chow Down
The food scene in Boulder is world-class, and the patios on Pearl Street are a great place to people watch and soak up the sun. You can’t go wrong on Pearl, but here’s a handful of my favs. For farm to table goodness, try The Kitchen. Centro’s patio is awesome, and the rooftop of the Rio is always rocking. Oh wait, you want pasta right? Pasta Jay’s is a wonderful place to carbo load. I know alcohol isn’t the best pre-race beverage, but one big liter at any of Oskar Blue’s restaurants won’t hurt.
Party On
The BOLDERBoulder SportsEXHIBIT on the Pearl Street Mall is a great place to get all sort of free swag and yummy goodies while checking out the best from all the sponsors. You might even meet some of the elite runners for a photo op! The Creek Fest has been around for a quarter of a century and is incredibly fun. You could wander around day and night and still never get bored of all the fun booths, dance routines, live music and yes…carnival rides! Did I mention that they also sell funnel cake? Yum!
Home Base
Come for the race,
Enjoy!
I hope you enjoy your stay in Boulder. I have no doubt that you’ll fall in love and move here like everyone else. 🙂 -Ryan Van Duzer
