About the ColderBOLDER in December

The ColderBOLDER 5K was created in 2003 as part of our racing series. It’s the “polar opposite” sister race to the BOLDERBoulder. It has become increasingly popular, now selling out year after year.

Runners are attracted to it because it’s the perfect way to start the winter holiday season on the right foot. It finishes in the university’s field house where festivities and the holiday spirit fill the air. It’s also a fast course that runs through the picturesque campus of the University of Colorado. Although it’s a smaller race, you can still expect a great racing experience.

The ColderBolder is locally owned and operated. This event has taken on a life of its own that we never quite envisioned, and it rewards us every year beyond measure. We hope you will join us to celebrate fitness, the cold, the holidays and this amazing city of ours Boulder, Colorado. Remember, “Warmth is for Whiners!”

Race Format
The ColderBOLDER is actually 14 individual races plus a Walking Wave. The top three men and women in each race win Cold Medals. That’s 84 medalists total. So come break out in a cold sweat with us, and pour cold water on those winter blues.

The First 13 races are for people who participated in the last BOLDERBoulder. Each race puts people together who are about the same speed. Why? So everyone has a shot at winning. For example, if you finished the BOLDERBoulder in 52 minutes you race against people who finished between 52-54 minutes. It’s everyone’s chance at personal racing glory and eternal fame.

The 14th Open Race is open to everyone. We want everyone to stay fit over the holidays, and we want everyone to be able to participate.

We finish with 1 Walking Wave. This is open for anyone who want a festive stroll through CU campus and our winter wonderland. This is not a race (no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place Cold Medals), but all will receive a Finisher’s Medal!

2024 ColderBOLDER will be held on Saturday, December 7th!
