We’re deeply saddened to share the passing of George Pierce — our oldest BOLDERBoulder finisher — who passed away last week at the age of 102. George and his wife, Irene (also 102), passed away within two hours of each other on octubre 27.

George completed the BOLDERBoulder eight times, starting in 2013 at age 89. At 100 years old, he proudly finished the 2024 race — his final BB10K. Over the years, he became a beloved figure on race day, known for walking the 10K in jeans, a cowboy hat, and cowboy boots — a true Coloradan through and through. He’ll be fondly remembered for his spirit, grit, and the sight of him riding his beloved horse, Dusty, to church on Sundays.

A Celebration of Life for George and Irene will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Legacy Church in Boulder (270 76th St.). In honor of Irene’s favorite color, guests are encouraged to wear a touch of red — especially those sassy red shoes she loved so much.
